Please head to the waiting area by the AST tutor rooms at Level 3, University Building for your appointment.

 Some guidelines

  • You can book a 50-minute tutorial appointment with an Academic Skills Tutor.

  • Each appointment should be limited to a discussion about one assignment or one dissertation chapter.

  • Our aim is to promote independent learning, so we offer you a maximum of two appointments per assignment.

  • We ask you to not book more than one appointment per week. if you feel you need more please contact skills@city.ac.uk to request this.

  • Your support sessions are confidential, and we will not share your attendance or the contents of the sessions with lecturers or other students.

  • If you disclose an emotional or mental health issue, we may ask for your permission to contact the Student Counselling and Mental Health Service. In exceptional cases where we believe you are a risk to yourself or to someone else, we will contact the SCMHS regardless of consent.

  • Academic Skills Tutors might be able to look at your work prior to the appointment if you upload it beforehand.  It is also useful if the Tutor can see the assessment criteria.  You can upload documents via the booking form.

  • Tutors are not allowed to proofread your work.

  • Tutors cannot conduct an appointment with you while you are sitting an exam.

  • There is high demand for these appointments. If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please do so via the cancellation link (in your confirmation email). If you can’t attend an appointment please let us know, so we can offer the slot to another student. Persistent no-shows may be restricted from making future appointments.

  • If you are an EU or International student with neurodiversity support needs but you don’t have funding for this, you can have an initial session with a Neurodiversity Support Tutor. After this session, you might be referred to the Academic Skills Team.
